St Luke's Cultural Centre

The St Luke's Cultural & Community Centre is a mixed-use heritage and new-build project with a unique combination of cultural, community, educational, and rental residential uses. Led by Kindred Works, an independent company founded with an initial investment from the United Church and CMHC, the St Luke's Cultural & Community Centre provides dedicated cultural & community space as well as family-oriented affordable rental homes in perpetuity.

Savira led the vision, market research, community engagement, concept design, partnerships, and business planning for the cultural and community spaces at the centre. Savira developed a 'Community-First' planning approach, which identified the current and future needs of the neighbourhood and community over two years of extensive community and public consultation.

Working directly with KPMB, the consultation directly informed the types of spaces at the Centre, and ensured that they truly met the specific needs of this important - and historically challenged - neighbourhood. The Centre includes a combination of flexible spaces that can be used by a variety of user groups - including a cultural meeting hall/performing arts venue in the heritage structure, community meeting rooms, classrooms, a community hub level with a kitchen & legal clinic, and a 300-capacity event venue with a dedicated catering kitchen, breakout rooms, and terrace overlooking Allan Gardens.

Providing a range of community, performing arts, and long-term rental units, the St Luke's Centre will be a transformative project for the Downtown East neighbourhood.
